Copenhagen International Airport Train Transfers

One of the easiest ways to go into Copenhagen Central is to take one of the airport trains. The first railway station in Copenhagen was built in 1847, however the architect, H. J. Herholdt in 1864, redesigned it soon after. DSR (Danish State Railways) is the largest train company in the whole of Scandinavia with lines that go all over Europe. Started in 1934, the unique S-train is a network of trains that runs in and around the suburbs of Copenhagen. The trains run underground and above ground level and are the preferred mode of transport for most Danish inhabitants.

The train station is conveniently located underneath the Terminal 3 building just by the luggage reclaim. If you are arriving into a different terminal, then you can take the free, 5 minute shuttle bus straight to terminal 3 which runs 24 hours a day. Trains from Copenhagen Airport go straight into Copenhagen or all across the country. You can travel by train to Bornholm Island and there are hourly trains to Roskilde. You can even cross over to Malmø, Helsingborg and Kristianstad in Sweden. The train journey over to Sweden is stunning, as you will cross the famous Øresund bridge. The bridge serves as the longest road and Rail Bridge in Europe.

You can board the Intercity trains which have direct links every hour to Jutland. There you can explore the Western part of Denmark and have fun at the amusement parks such as Legoland. Alternatively stroll along the beaches of the Baltic coast, or browse through the many museums and galleries that the area has to offer. Trains also run directly to the pretty island of Funen where you can see the picturesque farmhouses and hike around the rolling countryside. Alternatively you can take the Danish-Swedish Malmö lines that take you straight from the airport to Copenhagen Central Station, and stop on the way at Tårnby and Ørestad.

Copenhagen Airport trains are reasonably priced, and tickets can be purchased from right beside the exit in the DSB Travel Center. You can also purchase tickets from the ticket machines that are located all around the vicinity of the station. The journey time into Copenhagen center is only 14 minutes. If you purchase a 3-zone ticket, then you will be able to travel on trains from the airport to the central station in the city.

Copenhagen has an excellent and punctual new Metro service. Future plans for the Metro system are ambitious with work under way. There is set to be another 17 underground stations across the city, making transport in Denmark even easier. Although it is soon going to join with the main train lines after the completion of it's Full Circle Line, it runs very well independently. The Metro station (which is easily noticeable due to the large red M sign) is located at the end of Terminal 3. The Metro is extremely frequent and operates every 4-6 minutes during the day and every 15-20 minutes during the night. The journey time into central Copenhagen is only 15 minutes long, and you can purchase tickets from the DSB ticket counter or the numerous ticket machines. Take note that the machines only accept coins and cards such as VISA.
